The Importance of Ethics In Personal Injury Law

Trusting Your Attorney Is Important

The field of personal injury law and personal injury attorneys are often characterized in a not-so-flattering light. Sometimes they are thought of as greedy or unscrupulous. This is why the importance of ethics in personal injury law cannot be overlooked. Ethics is the cornerstone of the legal system and attorneys must act in an ethical fashion all the time, in and out of the courtroom.

At The Foster Firm, we believe ethics revolve around these 3 values:

  1. HONESTY: Your lawyer should never feel the need to lie, exaggerate or be evasive in order to deceive. If your attorney needs to result to this type of unethical behavior, that means they probably aren’t willing to put in the time and effort it takes to win your case on merit. If you ever catch your lawyer lying to you, that should be a red flag. You need to have 100% trust in the things that your personal injury lawyer does and says.
  2. RESPECT: Attorneys have to hold a high level of respect for their clients, the legal system, and their profession. There is no room for variance in any of these areas. The level of respect your lawyer has is directly related to the level of success they have. When your lawyer wants to skirt the system or marginalize their obligations to you, they lack the respect you need in a lawyer.
  3. INTEGRITY: Integrity directly relates to your lawyer’s moral compass. Clearly knowing right from wrong is essential. Your attorney should always be on the RIGHT side of the law and the RIGHT side of action. Choosing a personal injury lawyer who has unwavering integrity is critical.
